The enthusiastic ladies from the Writers of Picton group have been running a competition for children over the last few weeks, and winners were announced on Thursday and Friday, 8 and 9 August. St Joseph's School cleaned up three out of the four awards for writing the best short story.

The judge Sue Perkins was not given the names of the children that entered, or schools, and she chose the best from around 50 entries saying, “I was very impressed by the fantastic imagination of the children.”

Marie Higgs from Writers of Picton was quick to point out to all participants that just because they may not have won this year shouldn’t mean they should stop writing. She said, “Writing is just so much fun, you should keep doing it, and you never know next year it might be you!”
