Picton Businesses Excel at Awards Evening

Photos supplied by richardbriggsphotography.co.nz

The Westpac Marlborough Chamber of Commerce Business Awards champions business success and is an assessment tool to help enhance business performance in Marlborough.

A gala dinner was held on the evening of 16 November presenting awards to the winners and recognising the effort put in by all participants. The four Picton businesses that had entered, out of a total of 12 Marlborough businesses, excelled in each category. The stand out was Lochmara Lodge Wildlife Recovery and Arts Centre taking home a trio of trophies.

Clifford Bay Proposal Takes the Next Step

“Cabinet believes the business case we’ve been presented is strong enough to justify further testing the viability of this major change to New Zealand’s transport infrastructure,” Transport Minister Gerry Brownlee said, of the proposal to build a ferry terminal at Clifford Bay.

Although estimates on the cost of development have increased significantly to $422 million the Government wants to further test the viability and Mr. Browlee says, “I have asked the Ministry of Transport, along with the Treasury and the NZ Transport Agency to assemble a specialist project team to undertake this work.

“This group of officials and private sector experts will continue working through the complexities that are part and parcel of the business case and report back to the Government by the end of April next year.

“I expect that assumptions in the business case will be rigorously tested with key stakeholders.”
