Photo: Shirley Timms
On Thursday 11 October, 17 yachts carrying over one hundred hardy sailors, competed in the twelfth annual ‘Wine Race’; a challenging dash across Cook Strait, from Waikawa to Wellington, carrying Marlboroughs first vintage of Sauvignon Blanc for 2012.

The winner was Picton-based 41ft yacht ‘Nefertiti’, owned by Mike Vining, Bruce Lock, Noel Cohen and Henry Mayen, and skippered by Mike Vining. They carried Tohu Sauvignon Blanc 2012 and took out the Line Honours and Handicap of this years race in 5 hours 34 minutes.
